Pre & Post Surgery

We offer multi-disciplinary mental health support for individuals undergoing surgery or treatment for an injury. 

Our support:

• Our priority is understanding you as a whole person, the support system around you and your goals before surgery, during your hospital stay and beyond the initial stages of recovery
• A clear and shared vision for how you thrive and what is needed to get you back to your best self after a significant surgery or health event
• Close clinical collaboration with your care team and advocacy throughout, ensuring a clear plan as your health needs evolve
• Education around pain management for acute and longer lasting pain experiences
• Mental health assessment, formulations and mindset skill building utilising best practice treatments 
• Expectation setting, planning for appropriate supports and how to support your carers throughout
• Management of the surgically induced stress response before, during and after your surgery for improved recovery. Knowledge is power in this realm
• Support and familiarisation of the hospital system to ensure a smoother stay for the person and their loved ones
• Adjustment following a significant injury/traumatic health event
• Clinical planning for people previously diagnosed with a mental health concern or previous addiction diagnoses (including managing the risks of opiate addiction or other AOD risks). We take a hopeful, non-judgmental, harm minimisation approach with a focus on which evidence based approach might best suit you as an individual 
• Understanding and working through previous difficult experiences which might be triggered through a surgery and/or hospital stay
• Support to appropriately pace yourself when returning to previous activities following surgery (EG: school, study, work, parenting roles etc) 
• Family therapy and joint sessions with carers and loved ones
• Outreach visits (where geographically possible) following discharge from hospital
